Trump Slams Unpatriotic Lawmakers as House Votes to Curb Iran War Powers
President Trump blasted lawmakers as "unpatriotic" following the House's approval of a symbolic war powers resolution against unauthorized military action in Iran. This measure, passing 215–208, included votes from all Democrats and four Republicans—Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett, and Warren Davidson. Trump dismissed it on Truth Social, saying the vote was meaningless and disrupted ongoing negotiations to conclude the conflict.
Critics say that Trump has already broken the War Powers Resolution by extending troop deployment beyond the 60-day congressional approval limit. But the administration counters that this cap is unconstitutional. Although the resolution likely won't become legally binding due to its tricky political situation, it shows defiance towards the White House at a time when public sentiment sours. Plus, a recent New York Times/Siena poll found that 64% of registered voters are against the war, especially as gas prices soar.
